REPORT ACTIVITY OF CHAPTER 10 TRAINING CLASS

Literacy and ICT class for regular evening class is held every Wednesday at 4.30 p.m. For Wednesday 9th, 2012 (today), we have Literacy and ICT class as usual. There are two presenters training the class of how to apply the chapters and practice the chapters. Chapter 10 is my turn. It talks about how to produce materials by using electronic materials whether online or installable software. According to chapter 10, “Hot Potatoes” is chosen as the easiest installable software. Next, this report will show the procedures of class activity for chapter 10 training.
As additional information, the activity should be supported by wi-fi or internet connection because the software will be taken online on website. Unfortunately, the internet is not available in our class. In library, internet connection is not good enough for downloding the 9.1 Megabytes software as I already did before the class. It needs more than 15 minutes to download and install the software. So that, I prefer to practice the installable software on my laptop in front of the class and all my friends could come forward and practice together about the use of the software program. Bellow are the steps of training procedure.

  • For the opening section, I gave a piece of paper. In that paper, there is the website where they can find the software and how to download the software.
Ø  Free Download: http://hotpot.uvic.ca/
Ø  lick: Save file
Ø  Waiting for downloading
Ø  After downloading, click file and “Run” the installation.
Ø  After installation, launch the “Hot Potatoes”
Ø  Jquiz, Jcross, Jmatch.
Ø  Choose Jquiz.
Ø  Make questions and answers then feedback for wrong and right answer.

  • After a little explanation about how to install the software, I continue to show how to run the program. Actually, there are 5 hot potatoes’ program, but I just can run 3 of them. I explain how to run JQuiz, JCross and JMatch.

For JQuiz Steps:
  • First, click JQuiz and it will start automatically.

  • Second, fill the title and write the question related to the title.  You need to write feedback. Feedback is used to response the answer is correct or not. Don’t forget to click “Correct” for the right answer.

  • Third, when the questions are ready, click File – Create web page – Standard format. You need to save and name the exercise file.

  • Fourth, it will show some options, and choose ‘view the exercise in my browser’. No internet connection needed here.

  • Last, the exercise has been created and ready to be released offline or uploaded online. There will be scored automatically by the program.

For JCross Steps:

1.      First, click JCross and it will run automatically.

2.      Second, write the title and start create your material.

3.    Third, you need to add clues for down and cross words. For example the word is ‘Monkey’, give clues such as banana then click ‘Ok”.

4.      Fourth, as the JQuiz did, click File – Create web page – Standard format. You need to save and name your exercise file.

5.  Fifth, you have to click ‘view the exercise in my browser’ and the exercise will appear automatically.

6.      Last, the exercise is ready to be used as learning material.

For JMatch Steps:

1.      First, click JMatch and it will run automatically.

2.  Second, write the title and create the matching words. For example: Antonym Male – Female.

3.      Third, Click manage items – shuffle items, click continue.

4.    Fourth, click File – Create web page – Standard format. You should save and name your exercise file.

5.   Fifth, click ‘view the exercise in my browser’. It will appear in browser but no internet connection needed.

6.      Last, the exercise is ready to be used offline and you may upload it as online material.

These are the steps explained in training class for Literacy and ICT today. Questions were directly answers while the process of explanation in order to make it as clear as possible. It is hoped by having this training class, the program would be helpful and useful for others in creating electronic materials by their own.
For training class activities documentation, there are some photographs taken while training class and after training class.
